Fall Anime 2010 Season pre-season thoughts

So with the season fast approaching I should hurry up and post my thoughts on the up coming season.  This also means when I post the Fall guide in a couple of weeks I’ll be taking down the Fall 2009 guide, so be aware.  (Yes I have two sequels written up, that’s me being self-indulgent, sorry).  Hmm, now that I’ve looked, I don’t think I see an Anime no Chikara show this season.

Arakawa Under the Bridge x Bridge (Second season) [ANN][MAL]

Air date: 10/03

Pretty much an instant watch for me.  Rather enjoyed the first season and it’s serial hijinks so I’ll be watching it.  Etsuko Yakushimaru and Suneohair are returning to do the opening and ending theme songs as well, so good, or at least interesting theme songs here.  Animation production by SHAFT with Shinbo directing so expect visual hijinks.

Bakuman [ANN][MAL]

Air date: 10/02

Sounds good, read some of the manga sometime ago.  Just as long as they keep away from some of the stupidity of Shonen Jump it will entertain me, and that’s what I watch for anyways.  Nothing obvious sticks out for me other then the manga was done by Takashi Obata and Tsugumi Ohba, who both also created Death Note together.  That and the title of the ending song is “BAKUROCK ~Mirai no Rinkakusen~”, but that’s more of my thing.  Animation production by J.C. Staff which tends to do so so on other projects that aren’t moe, but that could just be how the budget crumbles for them.  They will probably do an alright job on this one but my guess is the bulk of the work is going to Index II.  The manga is being released here in the States by Viz (forgot about that, I wish I had money to buy every thing I come across, then I’d be able to keep track of new things)

Fortune Arterial: Akai  Yakusoku [ANN][MAL]

Air date: 10/08 with an advance screening on the 2nd

Ehh… moe vampire girls?  The synaps makes it sound interesting, but then you look over to the art and, meh.  Also based on a eroge, which tend to be meh.  It’s also been picked up by crunchyroll.com.  Lia (Angel Beats main OP) is performing the OP, which is okay (personally preferred the GirlDeMo ver. of My Soul, Your Beats).  Animation from feel and ZECSX which do okay work for the most part.

Hyakko Ryouran: Samurai Girls [ANN][MAL]

Air date(regular): 10/03

First episode did one of those pre-broadcast showings so already watched it.  Good news first, I do like the art direction, the animation is good but, now for the bad news, it’s a complete fan service show.  For starters, the main female character designed so it’s one continues panty show if the camera is below 20˚ above horizon and looks like she isn’t wearing anything below her waist when the camera is above that.  Moving on, opening theme is performed by Faylan who’s alright.  Animation production by ARMS which does mostly hentai and also did Queen’s Blade (which is basically hentai).  Based on the light novel by Akira Suzuki.  As of 10/01/10 Hyakko Ryouran will be simulcasted by The Anime Network Online starting on the 3rd at 11am (CDT).  1st episode will be avaible to guests, 2nd to regesterd members (it’s free) and the 3rd and beyond are premium only.

Iron Man [ANN][MAL]

Air date: 10/01

Lets see if it comes out this time…  Once again, it’ll probably be interesting.  It will be probably make it onto G4 sometime in 2011 but… might as well watch it now, it’ll be fun if there’s a lot of engrish.  Animation production by MADHOUSE and you should know by now who created it.

The World God only Knows (Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai) [ANN][MAL]

Air date: 10/06

Umm… maybe, maybe not.  I’m a little luok warm on this one.  Based on the manga by Tamiki Wakaki.  Animation production by Manglobe (really?) and will be available through Crunchyroll.com

Kuragehime [ANN][MAL]

Air date: 10/14

Brains Base, and a story about a girl trying to become a illustrator, okay, I’m in.  And to top it off, it’s in the Noitamina slot.  Based on the manga by Akiko Higashimura and animation production by Brains Base.  Also Chatmonchy is doing the opening.  Also since FUNimation has picked up the last two seasons of Noitamina block shows at the beginning of the seasons, it make sense if they get this one.

MM! [ANN][MAL]

Air date: 10/02

Moe, with masochistic male lead, ya, not expecting much.  Personal looks and sounds like another Moyou Neko Overrun.  Based on the light novels by Akinari Matsuno and animation production by Xebec.

My Little Sister Can’t Be This Cute (Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai) [ANN][MAL]

Air date: 10/03

I have a younger sister, she isn’t that cute too me.  Silly Japanese otaku and their sis-con.  Okay, so it’s mainly the brother always thinking “she plays these games, does she secretly love me?”.  Anyways as long as it’s not as bad as (shivers in disgust) Kiss x Sis, I’ll probably be fine.  Based on the light novels by Tsukasa Fushimi and animation production by AIC.  I do have to give it points for using a middle-school girl duet group to do the opening, considering the main female character and all.  And now it’ll be streamed by Aniplex USA who has teamed up with Anime News Network six days after the Japanese broadcast.

Otome Youkai Zakuro [ANN][MAL]

Air date: 10/04*

Art looks nice, if a bit on the girly side, but as long as it’s not a reverse harem I’m fine with it.  Based on the manga by Lily Hoshino (who does a lot of yaoi stuff but I see more girls then guys on the promo art) animation production by J.C. Staff.  The show will also be available on crunchyroll.com.

Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt [ANN][MAL]

Air date: 10/01*

Hmm… not quite sure about the show, true it’s not in the atypical Japanese animation style.  But it could be interesting.  Original animation production by GAINAX and will be available through crunchyroll.com when it airs.

Psychic Detective Yakumo (Shinrei Tantei Yakumo) [ANN][MAL]

Air date: 10/03

Once again on the fence about this one.  May be interesting but equally could bore me to tears.  Based on the light novel by Manabu Kaminaga with animation production handled by Bee Train.

Shinryaku! Ika Musume (Squid Girl) [ANN][MAL]

Air date: 10/04

Sounds better than most moe shows this season, but not by much.  Based on the manga by Masahiro Anbe with animation production by Diomedea (never heard of them) and will be available from crunchyroll.com

Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru [ANN][MAL]

Air date: 10/07

The premise sounds good, and it’s SHAFT so I’m in.  Based on the manga by Masakazu Ishiguro and animation production by SHAFT.  Oh and Mayaa Sakamoto is doing the OP.

Star Driver: Kagayaki no Takuto [ANN][MAL]

Air date: 10/03

It’s studio BONES with another crazy sounding mecha show, so sounds good to me.  Will it actually be good?  What do I look like, a crystal ball?  My guess is it’ll be silly fun at the worst.  Original animation production by Studio BONES.

Toaru Majutsu no Index II (A Certain Magical Index II) [ANN][MAL]

Air date: 10/08

As one of the few who actually enjoyed the first season, I’ll be watching the second.  Poking around amazon.co.jp for the HIGHSCHOOL OF THE DEAD ED collection shows another CD by Maon Kurosaki, the singer of the ED’s, is also doing the ending theme song for at least the first half.  Also Mami Kawada is returning to do the opening song again.  Anyways, still based on the light novels by Kazuma Kamachi with animation production by J.C. Staff.  FUNimation has licensed the first season and the (admittedly superior) Railgun spin-off series and Seven Seas has licensed the manga adaption of Railgun.

Togainu no Chi -Bloody Curs- [ANN][MAL]

Air date: 10/07

Urg… I can just hear the fan-girls screaming.  Just hoping that it’s not just about pretty boys.  Based on the BL (or at least the BL imprint) game developed by Nitroplus with animation production by A-1 Pictures.  Manga published by Tokyopop.  Anime News Network and Aniplex USA going to be streaming it six days after the Japanese airing on ANN site.

Yosuga no Sora [ANN][MAL]

Air date: 10/04

Looks like it’s based on a eroge with a siscon, and I don’t feel I need to repeat myself.  Based on the adult bishoujo game by Sphere with animation production by feel.  On the plus side though the OP is performed by eufonius, even if they tend to be hit or miss for me.
